Synterra, Ltd. provided comprehensive design and project management for this memorial to the contribution of the Negro Baseball League and its players.

In particular, the memorial plaza honors the Philadelphia Stars and is anchored by a bronze sculpture of a determined and dignified Negro pitcher. The sculpture was commissioned from renowned sculpture, Phil Sumpter.

The memorial plaza located at the intersection of Belmont and Parkside avenues enhances the cultural greenway in West Fairmount Park. The plaza also features a granite wall with engraved inscriptions from past players.

To delineate the plaza and give it prominence at its corner location, paving patterns with a baseball theme, pedestrian style lighting and seasonal landscaping were included in the design. The solution provides the appropriate stature and quiet invitation to passersby that memorials deserve.
