Synterra, Ltd. was responsible for site and landscape design for the Exhibition Hall streetscape and plaza plantings, and for the Reading Terminal Train Shed interior planting design. The goal of the design was to provide a ‘soft’ foil for the hard building materials, while accentuating the architecture of the building. Also, several important criteria needed to be considered when selecting plant material, including high visitor volumes, aesthetics, and survivability in a harsh, urban street environment. Along Arch Street, plantings provide separation between pedestrian through-traffic and the plaza gathering areas, and in the Train Shed the lush plants and water features of the mezzanine separate the banquet hall from the registration areas.
