This 190,000 sq. ft. terminal serves U.S. Airways Express operations.
Synterra, Ltd.'s project responsibilities included site design, site planning
and construction documentation.
The overall landscape concepts required integration with a variety of
other existing airport projects which were in various phases of completion.
These other projects included: International Terminal One, Philadelphia
Parking Garage One and E/F and the I-95 Roadway Access project which is
the access roadway for entry into the airport.
The landscape design incorporated planter beds in front of the terminal
building. The bed designs provide seasonal variability and easy maintenance
while delivering both color and texture change throughout the year. A
variety of ground covers, perennials, shrubs and tree material were used.
Seating height planter walls provide a place to rest and wait for passengers.
Three triangular open spaces north of the terminal were planted with large
deciduous and evergreen trees. Shrubs and ornamental grasses were added
to complete the triangles in a way that minimizes maintenance while preserving
year-round beauty.
Because several exiting roadways dissected these open spaces, the plantings
helped to soften the vast scale of these areas.
