Synterra, Ltd. developed the comprehensive master plan for facilities and campus development at the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI). Synterra, Ltd. directed the development of the site/landscape master plan for both of the University’s campuses, St. Thomas and St. Croix.

Our master planning process was divided into four phases: data collection, data analysis, options development and recommendations and development of a final report.

The master plan's objectives were to: centralize student activities, improve the quality of campus life, strengthen campus security, increase campus parking, refine pedestrian and vehicular circulation and create green open spaces for student activities.

The master plan formed a shared vision of the University’s growth blending the needs of the University, the pristine natural landscape and the surrounding community.

Synterra, Ltd. worked closely with the University’s Steering Committee throughout the planning process. In cooperation with the University Planning Committee, Synterra's design and development team helped build consensus and approval for the proposed master plan.

The final plan will act as a footprint for facilities and campus development on both UVI campuses for the next ten to twenty years.

Maintaining green open space was central to development of the St Croix and St. Thomas campuses.
